Peter was born about 1843. He was the son of William Cooper and Susan Burke and the grandson of Isaac Cooper and Mahala Jane Blevins. Lilly Martin provided this biographical information, June 14, 2019. Peter is found in census with Jane Blevins, known to be his grandmother. Peter's family information comes from a failed application he made for enrollment into one of the recognized tribes (Cherokee, I think--but some related applications hint at a possible Creek Indian lineage. Peter's application was rejected for lack of proof, but it contains importain biographical information.
Peter Cooper lost a leg while fighting as a Confederate soldier during the American Civil War. He survived the war and lived a long life, though he suffered from the injury and walked with the help of a wooden leg. He passed away about 1914. [1]
