Biography

Margaret's father Thomas Corbet, born 1398, died in 1427, so Margaret must have been born prior to that date. She died after 1463.[1]

Margaret may have been born in 1416, in Staffordshire, England[2] or born 1418, in Leigh, Shropshire to Thomas Corbet born 1371.born 1 July 1418, Leigh, Shropshire, England[3]

William and Margaret (Corbet) Mytton had two sons and four daughters:[4]

  • John Mitton, Esq., married (1) Anne (or Agnes) Swinnerton,[5] (2) Joan (or Jane) Middlemore
  • Richard Mitton
  • Anne Mitton, married Richard Mynors
  • Jane Mitton, married Roger Knight
  • Joan Mitton, married John Washbourne, Esq.
  • Eleanor Mitton, married Thomas Cornwall, Knt.

Margaret died after 1463.[6]

Disputed Parents

There is confusion on her parents. While Richardson names him as "Thomas Corbet of Leigh, Shropshire," he offers no other information, and no mention of a mother. The two Thomas candidates, both married to Elizabeth Cornwall born 1395 (from WikiTree, info as of April 14, 2016):
An image uploaded to Corbet-72 shows Thomas of Leigh, or Lye, etc., buried at Sibbestone 1424, as son of Roger Corbet & Beatrice, and father of "Thomas of Lye, etc., Sheriff, etc., ob. c 1482 s.p." married "Jane Boerly".[7] This would seem to rule out Thomas Corbet and Jane Borely as ancestors of Margaret m William Mytton.

Estimated birth year: Her father died 1427, so she was born no later than 9 months after his death (if that's her father, and that's when he died).[1] However, her birth year was changed from "before 1427" to "about 1420" to accommodate the birth year given on daughter Jane's profile (1435).

considering she's pre-1500, I think she'll be ok without PPP, even with the question of father & multiple spellings of Corbet.

her son with William was married by 1463, so I think a better guess for marriage is c1440

Corbet-340 and Corbet-215 appear to represent the same person because: 1418 & before 1427 for birth are not incompatible & the duplicate profiles for son John both have born 1441. These profiles are both attached to the recently merged William Mytton as his wife. Please merge. Thanks!

update on merge proposal for Corbet-215 and Corbett-173: merge was completed, with Corbet chosen (one "t"); birth year from 1500s corrected (and death year also)

Corbet-215 and Corbett-173 appear to represent the same person because: 1416 birthdate seems more correct. Marriage date in 1400's, so birthdate and date cannot in in 1500's. Same person, as spouse and daughter, Joan, match up.
