The house where John Corey was born was the home of Thomas and Margaret Williams Carman located in the town of Hector, Schuyler County, on Carman road, 1/2 mile north of Mecklenburg. Caleb and Anna Frost Carman moved to this house from Greene County in 1811. They bought it from Captain Hanley which is probably part of the military tract and is the first house north of Perry City Friends (Quaker) Meeting House.

John W Corey taught school for one year at Black Rock (Ellsworth) in Ledyard, Cayuga County, New York State.
