Biography

Hilda (Cornish) Parish was born in the Colony of Victoria (1851-1900)

Hilda Gertrude Cornish (married name Cummings and Parish) was born about 1894, her birth registered that year in Castlemaine, Victoria, Australia — the daughter of William Thomas Cornish and Henrietta Rende. ^[1][2]

Marriage. In 1917, Hilda married Joseph Benjamin Cummings in Victoria. ^[3][4]

They had four children. ^[5]

• Beryl Annie Cummings (1918-1974)
• Phillip Joseph Cummings (1920-1988)
• Yvonne Mary Cummings (1924-2006)
• Peter William David Cummings (1928-1995)

Residences. In the 1919 electoral roll, Hilda (Home Duties) appears as the only Cummings resident at 13 Bendigo Ave, Elsternwick, Victoria. ^[6]

1921: Hilda Gertrude Cummings and Joseph Benjamin Cummings were enrolled as living at 13 Bendigo Ave, Elsternwick. Joseph gave his occupation as a Farmer.

By 1924, Hilda had moved to Firebrace Street, Horsham. Enrolled from Urquhart Street, Horsham, were Aubrey Wilfred, Ellen, and William George Cummings.

1927: Hilda had moved to McPherson Street.

1931: Hilda had moved again, to Kalimna Park, Horsham.

Divorce. Joseph and Hilda married other people, so there must have been a divorce by 1931.

Marriage. In 1932, in Victoria, Hilda married Edward Ernest (Ted) Parish. ^[7]

Edward and Hilda had two children:

• Robert Christopher Parish (1931-2001)
• Edward James Parish (1933-2000)

Death of ex-husband. Joseph married again in 1931. He died in 1942, in New South Wales. ^[8]

Widowed. Ted died in 1936, aged 35 years.

IN MEMORIAM

PARISH.-In loving memory of my dear husband, Edward Ernest Parish, late of Kalimna Park, Horsham, who died 12th January, 1936; dear loving father Bobby and Teddy. Fondly remembered by his step-children.

Death. Hilda Gertrude Parish died 30th June 1974, aged 79. Her death was registered at Horsham, giving her birthplace as Castlemaine, and naming her parents correctly: William Thomas Cornish and Henrietta Rende. ^[10]

Interment. Interred in the Horsham Cemetery, with her daughter Beryl Ann Wheeler who died in the same year, aged 53. ^[11]
