Biography

Catherine (Craine) Bell was born in the Isle of Man

Catherine Ann Craine (1869-1962) was born in Ramsey on the 14th January 1869. ^[1] She was the daughter of Thomas Craine and Catherine Jane Corlett and was christened in Lezayre on the 28th March 1869. ^[2]

They lived in Ramsey during her childhood when her father was sometimes a mariner but also did labouring work. In 1871 they lived on Christian Street ^[3] but moved to College Street before 1881. ^[4]

She came over to the mainland before 1891 when she was employed as a servant in Beetham, Westmorland. ^[5]

During the 1890s her parents also moved over to the mainland and settled in Toxteth Park, Liverpool. Catherine moved to Liverpool and married John Bell on the 24th November 1897 at St Luke's church, Liverpool. ^{[6] [7] [8]}

They lived for the first few years on Twiss Street, Toxteth Park and it was there that their daughter, Catherine Hannah was born in 1899 ^[9] and where they were shown in the 1901 census. ^[10]

They added a son, William Halliwell, the following year. By 1911 they had moved to Earle Road, Wavertree where Catherine ran a fish and chip shop. ^[11]

Before the end of WW1 they had moved to Windsor Street in Toxteth Park ^[12] where they lived about 4 years ^[13] before moving onto Admiral Street ^[14] where they settled. ^[15] They lived there through WW2 ^[1] up to 1948. Her widowed sister Eliza Jane lived with her and her husband John died in 1943. ^[16]

She then lived on Brae Street, Kensington with her son and his family for a couple of years ^[17] before moving north to Fazakerley at some point.

She died on the 1st March 1962 at her home, Grace Street, Fazakerley ^[18]

and was buried in Toxteth Park Cemetery alongside her husband on the 6th March 1962. ^{[19] [20]}
