Thomas Gerrard Crane was born in Chester, Cheshire in 1808[1] and baptised at St Oswald’s Church, Cheshire on 6 January 1809. His parents were Henrietta and Thomas Crane. [2]
Thomas Crane married Marie Kearsley on 6 June 1839 at St John the Baptist Church, Chester. He was 21 years old. His father was Thomas Crane and hers is given as John Kearsley.[3][4]
He was the father of Sir Walter Crane.
Thomas Crane is listed in the 1851 census as a 42 year old Portrait Painter & C, born in Chester, Cheshire. He is living at Upton, Tormoham, Devon and is the head of the household which includes his wife (Mary, 41) and 5 children; Lucy (9), Thomas (7), Walter (5), Mary E (4) and Arthur (2) as well as his sister in law Helen Keansley plus a servant.
