Early Life

In 1920, William lives in a large, extended family. His father Charles works as a carpenter at the Navy Yard. All ten of his siblings live at home. Plus, two of them are married with families in the home. James appears as married and his wife, Claude Milstead lives with them. James works as a bookkeeper for a grocery store. Ruth, her husband, William Stowe, and their two daughters (Patricia and Jane. William Stowe works as a tailor. Arthur works as a salesman for a packing company. Charles Frederic and Calvin both work as a machinist at the same Navy Yard their father works at. ^[1]

By 1930, Charles and Matilda have moved to East Lakeview Avenue, but still live in Pensacola, only Mildred, William, and Ruth still live at home. Ruth says she is still married, but her husband is not on the census. She has had another child, Charles Frances. Charles and William work in house construction. Mildred works as a telephone exchange operator.^[2]
