John Montreville "Montie" Cullen was born October 27, 1876 in Humphrey, Cattaraugus, New York to Samuel Cullen and Lucy Riddle. [1] He was their youngest child. His parents died in December 1881/January 1882.
As reported in the 1892 New York Census, Montie, age 16, was living in Little Valley, perhaps with Charles and Susan Benson. [2]
Montie registered for the United States World War I military draft on September 12, 1918. He was 41 years old and a resident of Portville, Cattaraugus, New York. His nearest relative was his sister, Mrs. (Hattie) Stafford. He is described as of medium height and build with brown hair and the note regarding his eyes: "Person claims to be (and I believe him) "stone blind". [3]
In 1930, Montie, age 52, was residing with his sister, Hattie, and her husband, Frank Peters, in Ceres, McKean, Pennsylvania. He was unemployed. Frank was a farmer. [4]
Montie died April 30, 1939 after an illness of a few days at his sister's home in Ceres. [5]He was buried in Little Valley Rural Cemetery, Little Valley, Cattaraugus, New York.[6]
