Biography

William Currier was born at Amesbury, Massachusetts on June 27, 1713, the son of William Currier and Rachel Sargent. [1] [2]

William married Judith Chase at Amesbury on February 19, 1735/6. [2] [1] Judith was born at Newbury, Massachusetts on September 30, 1717, the daughter of Charles Chase and Hepzibah Carr. [3]

His father William Sr. wrote his will on on October 21, 1746 , naming sons William and Ebenezer executors. William Jr. received 'all the land where he now dwells.'[4]

He died intestate at Amesbury before August 22, 1761, his widow Judith, with Isaac Merrill and Stephen Sargent, posted bond in the administration of his estate on August 31, 1761. [5]

On August 22, 1761, Charles Currier, minor aged above 14 years, son of William Currier, deceased, chose Deacon Stephen Sargent as his guardian. On the same date, Stephen Sargent was appointed guardian to William Currier aged above 14 years. [6]

Widow Judith Currier was appointed guardian to the remaining minor children, on August 31, 1761, to:

  • Anna Currier, aged under 14 years
  • Thomas Currier, aged under 14 years
  • Molley Currier, aged under 14
  • Sargent Currier, aged under 14
  • Betty Currier, aged under 14 [6]

On June 7, 1762, his widow attested to William's estate inventory with real estate valued at L143 10s, real estate income L10 13s 4d and personal estate of L40 5s. [5]

On November 27, 1769, the court appointed a committee to set off one third of the real estate of William Currier deceased, to widow Judith Currier. On the samed date, Judith presented an accounting of expenses, including the raising of their young children, debts paid, income from real estate, the sale of 10 acres as ordered by the court etc. [5]

After his death, his widow married Joseph Edgerly, as his third wife. [7] [8]

In her father Charles Chase' will written on May 7, 1773, he left a bequest to his daughter Judith Edgerly ofL35, besides what she has already been given. [9]

She died at Gilmanton New Hampshire aged 88 years. [1] [8]
