HISTORICAL SOCIETY GETS PATROL TAX-PAYERS LIST
Guarded by Patrols Under Capt. Curry,
Capt. Bohon
Property owners in each section were taxed to keep the patrols who guarded their properties. Recently among some old records at the court house two lists of property owners were located who paid taxes to keep up the companies of Capt. James Curry, Sr., in 1812, and the company of Capt. William Bohon in 1817. These lists have been turned over to the Harrodsburg Historical Society.
Capt. Curry's list was kept and taxes collected by William Curry, according to the old record. Taxes were collected on land, "blacks" above sixteen, horses, mules, retail stores, tavern license, "wheel carriages," town lots and a personal tax on males over 21 years. This last tax was omitted in the case of women. All land in this list was on "Chapline river water course."
The list includes the names (as spelled) of Francis Doty, Robert Dickey, William Dickey, David Duggins, James Elder, Michael Gabhart, Elizabeth Haden, William Kelly, Beverly Mann, Josiah Mann, David Mann, Thomas Mann, Moses McCoun, Robert McClary, Elizabeth McCasteen, William Martin, Nicholas Phillips, George Phillips, Jacob Phillips, Charles Robeson, Caleb Symms, Jacob Thickston, Temperance Wells, James Wells, Jacob Wells, John Wilson, Jr., John Wilson, Sr., Alexander Wilson, Mathias Yocum, Samuel Yocum, Leonard Yest, Leah Young.
In Capt. William Bohon's list, which was kept by David Mann, the land was located on "Chaplain" watercourse, the name of the river being spelled differently from that on the first list. The names include William Agains, Elie Allin, John Adkison, Thomas Adkison, Brockman Adkins, John Adkins, Samuel Bunton, Michel Borders, Philip Bourns, Isaac Bourns, Abajah Brown, William Brown, Sr., William Booth, William Bohon, Polla Briant, Joseph Cunningham, William P. Curry, Samuel Curry, Robert Curry, James Curry, and James C. Curry.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
