Biography

John Cushing was born on January 23, 1743 in Scituate, Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay Colony. [1] He was the son of John Cushing and Deborah Barker Cushing.

On April 5, 1773, John married Olive Wallingford the daughter of Col. Thomas Wallingford, of Somersworth (now Rollinsford), New Hampshire. [2]

He was chosen Colonel, 2nd Plymouth County Regiment on, 21 March, 1776, and served throughout the Revolutionary War. [2] [3]

They lived in Boston and their first seven children were born there.[2]

About 1790 they moved to South Berwick, Maine and five additional children were born there.[2]

John died on February 19, 1822 at South Berwick, York County Maine. [4] He was about eighty years old. He was buried at Portland Street Cemetery in South Berwick.[5]
