Biography
Robert Cushing was born on February 4, 1755 in Scituate, Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay Colony. He was the son of John Cushing and Deborah Barker Cushing. [1]
Robert married the daughter of James Perkins, and sister of Hon. Thomas Handasyde Perkins, of Boston Massachusetts.
Captain Robert Cushing (born 1755 in Scituate, Massachusetts) was of a long established New England family, whose ancestor, the first Matthew Cushing, arrived in this country in 1638. Robert Cushing married Ann Maynard "Nancy" Perkins and they had two children : Ann, who married Henry Higginson and John Perkins Cushing.
Captain Cushing was a restless man who left his wife in charge of the family while he pursued fortune that eluded him. When Nancy died of smallpox, John Perkins Cushing (1787-1862) was raised by his uncle, Thomas Handasyde Perkins.
Research Notes
This Robert was the second child of this name born to the family. The first Robert Cushing in the family was born on June 4, 1747 in Scituate. [2] He died at the age of seven on July 2, 1754 in Scituate. [3] The next male child was born the following February and named Robert.
