Alexander Hazlett married Phoebe Cyrus 27 Nov 1799 in Stokes, North Carolina.[1][2]
Phoebe, her brothers as well as her husband Alexander Hazlett came to the area of Kanawha County that became Cabell County, Virginia about 1806. Alexander's name appears on the 1806 tax list for Kanawha County. By 1815 he had acquired 150 acres on Price's Mill Creek (later White's Creek) in Cabell County. The Hazlett's are mentioned in the research of Frederick Lambert who gathered information about Cabell and Wayne County (West) Virginia families. Lambert's notebooks are found in Special Collections at Marshall University Library and contain the comment that Hazlett was Irish. The name was originally spelled O'Hazlett. They lived on White's Creek, "far up". [3]
Phoebe was the female age 26-44 living in the household of Alexander Hazlett in the 1820 census of Cabell County, Virginia August 7, 1820 [4]
Her husband died in 1847 Wayne County, Virginia.[5]
In the 1850 census Phoebe was living with her daughter Jane and husband, William J. Smith in Wayne County, Virginia.[6]
She died at the age of 80 years 9 months on 29 January 1860 in Wayne County, Virginia. Her parents were listed as Jesse and Frances Cyrus. The information was reported by Alexander Hazlett "son-in-law".[7]
