Major Benjamin Daniels Benjamin Daniels served in the Ohio Militia in the War of 1812

BENJAMIN DANIELS was born circa 1774 in Virginia (1850 census), first appears as a head of household on the 1790 census in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, was living in Pike County, Ohio by the 1820 census and as late as 1850. He served as a major in the War of 1812 in the First Odd Battalion of the Ohio Militia (History of the Lower Scioto Valley, 504). He was Commissioner for Pike County, 1825-1832 (History of the Lower Scioto Valley, 119). He was an Associate Judge in Pike County, Ohio, 1829-1835 (Journal of the House of Representatives of the State of Ohio, xxviii. 403; xxxiv. 214). According to his grandson, Cyrus Boiler, he had once been mayor of Waverly, Ohio (Biographical History of Pottawottamie County, sub Cyrus Boiler).

Benjamin Daniels went to Ohio about 1803 or 1804 with brother Dennis. Benjamin purchased a large tract of land near Piketon, Pike County, Ohio. He purchased a Quarter Section of land from the US Government on April 1, 1800. "Jackson County began its military history by sending a company to the war with England, in 1812. The third auditor of the Treasury Department has kindly furnished a roll of this company, as follows :

Muster Roll of Captain Jared Strong’s Company, Ohio Militia, of the First Odd Battalion, Second Brigade, Second Division, late in the service of the United States, commanded by Major Benjamin Daniels, from the 29th of July, 1813, to the 19th of August, 1813, inclusive "

Major in War of 1812, he served until August 12, 1813. Ohio Militia, 1st Battalion, 2nd Brig, 2nd Div. He received a pension of $300 per year and 160 acres of bounty land. When Benjamin was permitted to return home he was shot in his left leg by Indians and so severely wounded that he did not reach home for three months.
