The son of Rush Floyd Davis (1853-1926) and Martha Hobbs (1852-), James Davis was born in Lee County, Virginia in 1878.[1] James Davis married Elizabeth (Barnes) Davis, marrying around 1895 and having six children together. They made their home in Gibson Station, Virginia, where he worked as a day laborer.[2][3] By 1920, they had left Virginia and were living in Middlesborough, Kentucky, where James Davis worked as a section hand on the railroad.[4] By 1930, James David had taken up farming in Claiborne County, Tennessee.[5] By 1940, James and his wife were back in Virginia, residing in Rose Hill and farming there.[6]
James Davis passed away in Gibson Station, Virginia at the age of 77.[7] According to the death certificate, his remains were removed to Ely Dale Cemetery for burial.
