Biography
The son of James Davis and Elizabeth (Barnes) Davis, Henry Davis was born in Rose Hill, Virginia in 1899.[citation needed] He lived there with his family.[1][2] His family left Virginia and moved to Middlesborough, Kentucky. Henry Davis registered for the draft there, registering on September 12, 1918, at the age of 18.[3] He stated that he was employed by the Louisville & Nashville Railway Company, and was described as a man of medium height and build with brown hair and light brown eyes. He did not enlist. In 1920, he lived with his family in Middlesborough, working as a section hand on the railroad.[4] Henry Davis married Iona Lee Brooks (1904-1943), the daughter of Franklin Brooks and Josephine Sulfridge, having four children together:
Gladys Irene Davis (1923-2010)
Arthur Lee Davis (1925-1997)
Dorothy Lee Davis (1935-1986)
Glenn Davis (1938-2010)
His wife died in childbirth in 1943 and Henry Davis married a second time, marrying "Mary," a woman more than 30 years younger. In 1950, they lived and farmed in Rose Hill, Virginia.[5] Henry Davis passed away in Leesburg, Virginia, at Loudon Memorial Hospital, at the age of 83[6] and is buried at Elydale Cemetery in Ewing, Virginia.[citation needed]
