From the Book Our Kin: James Davis, born May 4, 1770, son of Nathaniel and Elizabeth (Atkins) Davis, of Amherst County, Virginia, married October 13, 1800, Sallie Dudley Ragland born April 4, 1764, daughter of John and Nancy (Dudley) Ragland, of Louisa county, Virginia. They had three children, viz: John Dudley Davis, born 22nd of September, 1801; Nancy Beverly Davis, Born 27th of March 1803; and Louisa Jane Davis, born 29th of December 1806. Sallie Dudley (Ragland) Davis died at her residence in Amherst County in December, 1852, in the 90th year of her age.[3]
