Biography

Amelia Hopkins Davis, the daughter of Baxter Davis and Mary Edmundson Webb, was born in North Carolina about 1802, according to various census records. She died in 1875 and was buried in Yorkville, Gibson County, Tennessee.[1] She married Nace Overall on 17 September 1818 in Daviess, Kentucky, United States.[2]

On 11 September 1839, she was named as one of the daughters of Baxter Davis, when Baxter made his will in Daviess County, Kentucky on that date.[3]

In the 1850 census Amelia (age 48) was in Rutherford, Tennessee, United States.[4]

In the 1860 census Amelia (age 58) was at 8th District, Gibson, Tennessee, United States.[5]

Her husband Nace Overall was a resident in Gibson County, Tennessee, when he made his will on 23 March 1861.[6] In it, he mentions that Amelia was his wife, and names their children then living; B.D. (Baxter Davis) Overall, L.A. (Lea Anne) Smith, N.W. (Nathaniel Webb) Overall, R.A. (Robert Axily) Overall & E.R. (Elizabeth Rachel) Hutchison. Amelia was appointed to be the sole executrix. His will was recorded in Gibson County in the April Term 1862. His wife Amelia posted bond on 5 May 1862 and was appointed executrix of Nace Overall's estate.[7]

Amelia and Nace Overall had the following children:

  3. Nathaniel Webb Overall, born about 1823.[8]
  4. Robert Axley Overall (1825-1904)
  5. Mary Frances Overall, born about 1828.[9]
  6. Elizabeth Rachel Overall, born about 1833.[10]
  7. Sarah Vitulah Overall, born about 1837.[11]

Davis-62458 and Davis-24762 appear to represent the same person because: Amelia Hopkins DAVIS Overall is my 3rd great-grandmother. Both of the Wiki-Amelia DAVIS' share the same birth/death dates and location, the same parents, (William) Baxter DAVIS and Mary Edmondson WEBB Davis, the same siblings, and the same children (eg Baxter D. OVERALL). There are several other children of Rev. Nathaniel (Nace) Sims OVERALL and Amelia Hopkins DAVIS Overall who need to be added, including: Lee Ann OVERALL, Nathaniel Webb OVERALL, Robert Axley OVERALL (my 2nd great grandfather), Mary Frances OVERALL, Elizabeth Rachel OVERALL, Vistula (Sarah) OVERALL.
