Obituary: Indianapolis News, July 13, 1878-- Death of an Old Settler. Mathias Dawson age 70 years, died at his residence four miles north of the city on the Broadripple Road at midnight last night. He was well known as an honest upright citizen and thoroughly conscientious man. He was one of the oldest settlers of this county having come to Washington township in 1823 and lived there from that time until his death, which was caused by a stroke of paralysis. For the past five months he has been totally blind.

Death Notice: Indianapolis Journal, July 13, 1878-- Page 8--- The death of Mathias Dawson of Broad Ripple is announced. Mr. Dawson was one of the oldest citizens of Marion county, and has always enjoyed an enviable reputation for honesty and all the sterling virtues that go to make a man.

Obituary: Indianapolis News, July 12, 1878-- DIED: Dawson--- Thursday night at 12 o'clock, Matthias Dawson, aged 70 years. The funeral will take place at the residence, 4 miles north of the city on Broad Ripple pike Sunday morning at 10o'clock. Friends invited to attend.
