Biography

William was a son of Donnock Dennis by his first wife, who's name is not known. He was mentioned in the will of his grandfather dated 16 Feb 1716/7 as a son of his son Donnock.

William was married to Rhodah when he made his own will in Worcester Township the 5th of July in 1757. He mentioned his wife and two sons. His son Wheatly Dennis was bequeathed the 100 acre plantation on which William resided, part of a Tract called Edwards Lot. Son, Lazarus Dennis, was to receive this land should Wheatly die without issue. His estate was administered by his widow Rhodah with Solomon Dennis and Daniel Dennis as sureties on her bond.

Sadly, it appears both of William's named sons may have passed. His son Wheatly died in 1868 and bequeathed all but 10 acres (to pay his expenses) of his 100 acre part of Edwards Lot, which he called by the name Dennis Gift, to his two sisters Mary and Zipporah [or Tipporah] Dennis and heirs of their bodies. He named his "honored Mother Rhodah Dennis" as his executrix. It was noted when the will was proved the 8th of September, 1868 that Wheatly was "a young man Just grown up" with no personal estate. It is therefore likely no will was made by his brother Lazarus.
