Biography

Marvell Dill was born on April 20, 1809, most likely in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, where his parents were living in 1800 and 1810. He was the son of Joseph Dill and Mary Wright.[1][2][3][4][5] In about 1815, Marvel's father Joseph migrated west and settled in Rutherford County, Tennessee. Marvell is likely one of the young men who appear in his household there in 1820.[6]

On May 12, 1831, Marvell married Mary Ann Sanders in Rutherford County, Tennessee.[7] They raised a family of at least eleven children together in Rutherford County between 1832-1857, and Marvell lived in that area for the rest of his life.[8][9][10][11][12] Marvell appears in the voter lists of Rutherford County In January 1891.[13]

Marvell Dill made his will on October 30, 1888. He died in 1894, and his will was probated in August of that year in Rutherford County, Tennessee.[14]

Research Notes

Marvell Dill was one of two living children of Mary (Wright) Dill when the estate of Rebecca Alexander was settled in 1887.[3]

The death certificate for son Joseph suggests that Marvell Dill was also known by the nickname "Jack."[15]

DNA

The paternal relationship is corroborated by a triangulated GEDmatch group including Mark McClain (A582588); "EHD," (A956414), second great-granddaughter of Marvell Dill through daughter Lavinia and grandson George W. Hopkins; and "GHB" (T959029), great-granddaughter of Marvell M. Dill through daughter Lavinia and grandson James Anderson Hopkins; all sharing 64.2 cM in a single segment on chromosome 22. MCRAs are Joseph Dill and Mary Wright. However, this match does not qualify as a "Confirmed with DNA" match under WikiTree Requirements for Triangulation because EHD and GHB are first cousins, once removed, sharing a common ancestor more than one generation below the the MRCAs of the group.
