Richard Gaymer, Sr. married Alice Dobbes on 08 February 1561/2, their marriage recorded in St. Peter ad Vincula church in Coggeshall, Essex, England. Richard was a wool fuller there. His will was written on 03 April 1571, and named his son Richard, making bequests to him of £16 to be paid to him at age 20, money in the hands of John Lyly of Terling. Also left to his son were household goods. His wife Ales {Alice} was his executrix, and was given all the residue of his estate. William Fuller was to be overseer.
Alice Dobbes was the mother of Richard Gaymer. After the death of her husband she relocated approximately 12 miles from Coggeshall to Terling, Essex, where she remarried to a miller named John Thornson on 25 June 1571. She died the next year on 20 May 1572. Her son, perhaps age 10 years or younger, became an orphan, but because he also became a miller, it is possible he was raised by her second husband and his new wife, Ursula Paperell. John Thorson married Ursula on 06 April 1573.[1]
