Biography

Of Gilmanton, NH. From the Book of Dow "Taylor Dow m 1st Abigail Foss of Dover; 2nd Mary Emerson; d Gilmanton 1839; probably the Taylor Dow jointed the Baptist church of Exeter about 1833. Newspaper obituary in Gilmanton spoke highly of him, tailor, prominent Mason. At least two children: George W. b. Epsom Mch 2, 1832; d widower Gilmanton Oct. 30, 1912 Mary A. m Oct. 1858 Charles E. Flower, both of Epsom. This must be the same as a garbled Epsom rec-Susan M. Dow m Nov. 13, 1849, Charles Flower."

It would appear the Book of Dow incorrect to Taylor having married twice, he died young and his widow Abigail Foss married Joseph Emerson of Epsom. Daughter Mary A. is in their houselhold 1850. The reference to the Emerson's is apparently through Abigail and not Taylor. Dow also indicates that Susan and Mary may be one in the same. The Epsom record is not garbled. Charles (E) Flower did marry twice, both Dow's, and likely sisters. The 1830 Census for Gilmanton clearly allows for Susan to have been a part of Taylor's family based on her year of birth. The strong connections to Epsom allow for some of Taylor's children to have been born there. Taylor Dow's mother, Mary Blake was born in Epsom. Charles E. Flower's father lived in Epsom and was married to Hannah Lawrence of Epsom. Following the death of Taylor, his spouse married Joseph Emerson of Epsom and resided there.
