Biography

Jonathan Drake, Sr. was born at Piscataway, Middlesex Co., New Jersey, in 1689, the son of George Drake, Sr. & Mary (Oliver) Drake. Jonathan was raised in the Piscataway area of Middlesex Co., New Jersey.

At the age of about 25, Jonathan married Mary (Clawson) at Piscataway, Middlesex Co., New Jersey, on March 21, 1714.

After their marriage, Jonathan and Mary settled at Piscataway, Middlesex Co., New Jersey, where their children were born and raised. In later years, they removed to Bucks Co., Pennsylvania, and lived in New Britain Township where they both spent the remainder of their lives.

Jonathan Drake wrote his will on December 15, 1751, while a resident of New Britain Township, Bucks Co., Pennsylvania. His will was proved in Bucks Co., Pennsylvania, on July 30, 1754. This will lists his well beloved wife Mary Drake; 4 sons: George Drake, William Drake, Jonathan Drake, & Thomas Drake; Eldest daughter Mary Bevan, wife of Mordecai Bevan; 3 youngest daughters: Debora Drake, Cathrin Drake, Aphie Drake; Executors: my son George Drake, my son Jonathan Drake, & my friend Simon Butler Jr.; Trustees: my good friends Thomas Humphrey & Isaac James both of Mountgomery.

Bucks Co., PA: Be it remembered that on the 30th day of July Anno Domini 1754 this Last Will and Testament of Jonathan Drake was duly proved according to Law & Probate and letters testamentory were granted to George Drake, Jonathan Drake and Simon Butler Junr Executors therin named they being first solemnly sworn well and faithfully to administer the Goods and Chattels Rights and Credits of the said Deceased and to exhibit a true and perfect inventory thereof in to the Registers Office for the said County of Bucks in one month after the date hereof and a just and true account of their administration when thereunto required to render in witness wherfeof I have hereunto set my hand and the seal of the said Office the day and year afore said Rich'd Gibbs Deputy Regr By virtue of a Commission from the Register General And by the Direction of Lawr. Growdon Esquire Deputy Register

The date and place of death were incorrect, so I changed it to "before" 30 July 1754 (that being the probate date of his will). I just put Bucks County, Pennsylvania, as the place of death, but it was most likely in New Britain Township, since that was his place of residence when he made the will in 1751.
