MRS. S. A. McALPIN. The death of Mrs. Sarah Anne McAlpin, which occurred at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. George Edmonds, of Railway St., Taree, on Friday night last, leaves another gap in the band of pioneers of this district of whom death recently has been taking such toll. The late Mrs McAlpin was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Drury, of Lansdowne, and her family has been associated with the district since its early days. She was born at Jones' Island and was 84½ years of age. For the past two years she had not enjoyed good health and had been an inmate of hospital on several occasions. The deceased, who had lived in the Lansdowne district practically all her life, was married to Mr. Duncan McAlpin, of Cundle Plains, who predeceased his wife about six years ago. During the first part of her married life she lived at Cundle Plains, and later her husband went to Lansdowne, where deceased lived most of her life. In more recent years she had lived with her daughters in Taree and on the Lower River. The late Mrs. McAlpin, who was held in high esteem, was a staunch member of the Methodist church at Lansdowne for many years. She was a devoted wife and mother, and is survived by one son and six daughters: Andrew (Bootoowaa), Mrs. McKay (Moorland), Mrs S. V. Emerton and Mrs. H. Emerton, of Jones' Island; Mrs. C. Barlin (Lansdowne), Mrs. Geo. Edmonds (Taree), Mrs. A. Tolson (Lansdowne). Another son, Gordon, is deceased. She is also survived by the following brothers: Charles Drury (Glenthorne), William (Taree), Jonas (Taree), Edwin (Moto), Thomas (Central Lansdowne), Alfred (Taree), Harold (Hannam Vale), Allan (Bowraville). Two other brothers, Nathaniel and George, are deceased. The funeral, which was very largely attended, took place on Sunday after-noon leaving the Taree Methodist Church after a service conducted by the Rev. A. E. Frede, for the Dawson cemetery, where Rev. F. Paton officiated, assisted by Rev. Frede. |
