Tjaatjen was born to Johannes du Bois and his wife, Rebekka Tappen. She was baptized 1743 September 25th in the Reformed Dutch Church of Kingston, New York, by Domine Vas with her uncle, Johannes Tappen, and her uncle's wife, Tjaatjen du Bois, as witnesses.[1] She was her parents' second daughter to be given the name Tjaatjen. Her sister Tjaatjen was baptized in 1737 and is assumed to have died before this Tjaatjen was baptized.
Recorded as Tietje Dubois, she married William Thompson in the Reformed Dutch Church of Claverack, New York, on 21 October 1762. Her sister Arriantje married Solomon Dubois in that same church on the same day.[2][3] Both marriages were also recorded in the Kingston Church four days later, on 25 October 1762.[4]
