His mother died when he was 14 years of age and he resided with his great uncle Ernest Dunlap in 1940. [4] Tavner enlisted in the US Army Air Corps on 03 Mar 1942 at Fort Thomas, Kentucky for service in World War II. [5]
He married first by about 1942 to Anna B. Miller and they had children:

Patricia Ann, b. 06 Mar 1947, m. Joey Lee Means
Tavner Branham, b. 19 Oct 1953, m. Celia A. Muller, d. 04 Feb 2013
Tavner married second to Martha Jane (Emily) Teeple and married third in 1994 to Sheila (Robertson) Creason. [6] He does not appear to have had any children by either.
He passed away in 1995 [7][8][9] and was buried at Pisgah Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Woodford County, Kentucky. [10]
