John Durden (or Dierden or Dearden) was born on 10 Nov 1811 in Lancashire. He was the son of Henry Dierden. He was christened on 8 Dec 1811 at St Helens Chapel of Ease in the parish of Prescot, Lancashire. His father's occupation was recorded as labourer, and the family's address as Sutton.
John married Sarah Briers on 20 May 1838 at the church of St Mary the Virgin in Prescot, Lancashire. Both were of full age (21 or more) and lived in Eccleston, and neither had been married before. John was a plate polisher [probably plate glass polisher]. Their fathers were named as Henry Durden (labourer) and Richard Bryers (plate polisher). The witnesses were Benjamin Naylor and Alice Travers.
Their daughter Elizabeth was born in 1839,[1] and christened on 22 Mar 1840 at the church of St Mary the Virgin in Prescot, Lancashire. Her father's occupation was recorded as glass polisher, and the family's address as Eccleston.
By June 6th 1841, they were living in Schooles Lane, Eccleston. John was working as a glass polisher. Sarah's sister Ann Briars was staying with them when the census was taken.
Their son Henry was born in 1842[2] in Eccleston, Lancashire.
John died in 1843, aged 32. He was buried on 4 May 1843 at Christ Church, Eccleston; his address was recorded as Eccleston (and the grave number as 46).
Sarah died in about 1844, aged 28. She was buried on 4 Jan 1844 with her husband (in grave 46, Christ Church Eccleston). Her address was recorded as Eccleston.
