- Thos Simkin 40 Ag Lab Y
- Not profiled yet
- His age is very clear in the census. There is no match in death regs in Prescot district, or
- in the censuses of 1851-61, for this.
- There is a burial 31 Jan 1853 at Prescot St Mary's of a 62-year-old Thomas Simkin (abode Whiston) listed on Lancashire OPC website
- There is a corresponding 1851 census record for a married ag lab born in Lathom, in Kirkdale Gaol.
- He was likely convicted on 21 Jun 1841, reported in the Liverpool Standard on June 22.
- Crime was violently striking an old Irishman, penalty 50s fine or a month's imprisonment.
- He was described as a stout fellow.
- The Liverpool Standard, 22 Jul 1844 reported a prosecution by a Thomas Simkin aged about 40 of a Margaret Burrows for allegedly stealing his silver watch on 7 May after getting him drunk at a pub in Eccleston where he fell asleep. He had also, in spite of being invited there by Margaret and treated to beer by her, gone out and invited in another woman, Molly Bromilow. Margaret and Thomas had been keeping company for eighteen months, and he'd lent her the watch many times before. She claimed to have borrowed it. It seems his mother had tried to reclaim the watch for him this time and offended Margaret. Margaret was acquitted.
- Another Thomas Simkins living in Town Green Lane, Aughton in 1841 - a farmer - a few miles from Lathom - is an alternative match for most of the above records.
