Biography

Mary Ilean Durtschi was born on Aug. 23, 1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Alfred Durtschi (Durtschi-12) and Mary Sadie (Spanton) Durtschi. (Spanton-285)

Ilean grew up and attended schools there and graduated from Granite High School.

Mary Ilean Durtschi married Hyrum Poll Oakey on September 15, 1948 in Bannock, Idaho, United States. They had one daughter, Mary Ann.

They lived in Pocatello for ten years before moving to Idaho Falls. Ilean worked at Garrett Freightlines for several years and then for Idaho School District 91 in the cafeteria at Westside Elementary.

She was a wonderful seamstress, enjoyed crafts, and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, Jacob and Russell Ware.

Mary Ilean (Durtschi) Oakey passed away on Oct. 24, 2002 at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. She was 73 years of age.
