John Edelen performed Patriotic Service in Maryland in the American Revolution.

John Edelen is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A132758.

John Edelen took the oath of Fidelity and Allegiance to the State of Maryland in Prince George's Co, MD in March 1778.

The will of John Edelen dated 15 Sep 1786 and probated 22 Sep 1786 mentions his daughter Elizabeth Mudd and his granddaughter Anne Mudd to whom he bequeathed a negro. Thomas P Edelen, son of John Edelen, filed the final account of the estate of John Edelen on 26 Jun 1792 and money was apid to Elizabeth Mudd, dau of the dec, amongst other children. [1]

John Edelen died at his estate in Prince Georges County during 1786. He devised the dwelling-plantation "Piscataway Manor", containing 150 acres to his daughter Jane, but at her decease it was to be divided among his five sons-Thomas, Willliam, John, Christopher, and Benjamin. In addition Jane received numerous negroes and other personalty, but in the event that she married Joseph Blandford, then the personalty would revert to her brother Christopher. Negroes were bequeathed to the following grandchildren: Anne Mudd, John and Mary Spalding, and Sarah and Susannah Lindsay. Negroes were also bequeathed to his son John, but if he married either of the daughters of Johh Halley, then the slaves were to revert to the testator's grandson Robert P. Edelen. Other slaves were left ot his children-Christopher, Richard, Benjamin, and Elizabeth Mudd. The residuary estate was to be divided among the four daughters.
