Biography

Namesake of his grandfather, Samuel Merrill (-bef.1797). When Samuel Merrill Elmore was born on March 22, 1790, in Windsor, Connecticut, his father, Eliakim, was 25 and his mother, Lois, was 19. He married Charlotte Hoyle on December 20, 1823, in Bergen, New York. They had two children during their marriage. He died on March 18, 1868, in Richfield, Michigan, having lived a long life of 77 years, and was buried in Davison, Michigan.
