Walter was born in 1911. He was the son of Nels Olsson and Emma Smith.
In May 1920, Walter lived with his father and seven siblings in Maple Ridge, Delta County, Michigan. He had attended school in the last year.[1]
On 6 May 1930, Walter lived with his father Nels Englund and brother Edwin Englund in Maple Ridge Township. He was working as a laborer in the woods.[2]
Walter was married on 3 June 1936 at Ishpeming, Marquette County, Michigan, to Ethel Rajala. Clergyman Theodore E. Matson conducted the ceremony, which was witnessed by Mr. Emil Koski and Mrs. Elsie Koski. [3]
In April 1940, Walter and Ethel and their daughter Carol Jean lived on North Rock Road in Maple Ridge Township. Walter was a W.P.A. roadwork laborer. The couple owned their home, valued at $700.[4]
Walter registered for the World War II draft in 1942. He lived in Rock, Delta County. He was working for the W.P.A. Project.[5]
Ethel filed for divorce, claiming extreme cruetly and habitual drunkenness, on 19 December 1944. The divorce was granted on 30 April 1945.[6]
Walter died on 15 April 1951: "Walter A. Englund, 40, of Rock, jobber and logger for the Badger Paper Co., died at 9:30 Sunday morning at his camp near Covington, Baraga county, where he had been located since 1951.
A fall in which he struck the back of his head on a sharp object caused his death according to Michigan State Police who investigated and Dr. Arthur L. Amolsch of Marquette and Dr. I. Sicotte, Michigamme, who conducted an autopsy.
Mr. Englund was born in Rock January 29, 1911.
He is survived by a daughter, Carol, of Rock, and four brothers and two sisters, Earl Englund, McFarland; Herb Westlund, Rock; Edwin Englund, Cladstone; William Englund, Skandia; Mrs. Toiva Rajala, Seline, Mich.; and Mrs. Mae Saunders, Chicago,
The body was brought here to the Anderson funeral home where friends may call beginning Tuesday afternoon. Services will be held Wednesday with burial in Rock cemetery,[7]
Walter was buried in Rock Cemetery in Maple Ridge.[8]
