MISS EMMA A. ENOCH DIES OF STROKE
Unable to rally from a stroke suffered two weeks ago, Miss Emma A. Enoch, until her retirement three years ago financial secretary of Rockford College for 35 years died in her home.
Miss Enoch who was 74 years at the time of her death, devoted the greater part of her life serving Rockford College as financial secretary. At her own request she retired three years ago.
She was born in Guilford Township June 13, 1856, a daughter of A.I. Enoch and Catherine D. Enoch, pioneer settlers her. The family moved to Rockford when she was a child and when she came of age she began her studies at the old East Side Rockford High School, graduating with the class of 1875 with the scholastic honor of having achieved 99 percent in her studies for four years.
Assuming the duties of financial secretary of Rockford College in 1892, she held that position for 35 years and discharged her duties in such a business like and responsible manner that it prompted Dr. W.A. Maddox, President of Rockford College, to say last night, “No institution that I have known has been served by an officer with more faithfulness, greater disposition of spirit, and intense personal interest than Rockford College by Miss Enoch”.
From childhood Miss Enoch has been a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Surviving her are three sisters, Miss Harriet Enoch, Rockford; Mrs Lois E Pierce, Cambridge, Mass., and Mrs Eva Works, Buffalo, Wyo. she also leaves a number of nieces and nephews, Judge Fred Carpenter, Frank Carpenter, Miss Florence Carpenter, Dyer C. Putnam, and Miss Hazel Putnam, all of Rockford.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the home. The Rev James Benson will officiate and burial will be st Cedar Bluff Cemetery. [8]
