Born at Oak Knoll Naval Hospital in Oakland, CA, but taken home to Hunter's Point, San Francisco, so a generic Bay Area native. Kindergarten in Sacramento. First-third grades in Honolulu, Territory of Hawaii. Fourth-sixth grades in Yokosuka, Japan. Seventh and eighth grades we lived in Big Sur and I rode the school bus to Monterey and back daily (30 miles of gorgeous coastline and whale sightings). Lived briefly in Weaverville, CA, then landed in Big Basin State Park. Attended and graduated from Spanish-speaking Elbert Covell College (now the School of International Studies) of the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. Worked for the County of Santa Cruz for 30 years in the fields of social work then computing. Retired in 2005.
