Biography

Samuel was born May 21, 1862 in McLennan Co., Texas to Samuel Leonidas Ewing and Mary (Long) Ewing.

After the death of both of his parents during the civil War, he and his brother's went to live with their Ewing grandparents, although their guardianship was given to their uncle James Porter Ewing. After the death of both grandparents, he went to live with his aunt Virginia Ewing McKee.

He married Elizabeth Lucile Wilkinson in 1892.

Together they became the parents of Lelia E. (Ewing) Boyce, Bernice (Ewing) Garrett Hastings, and Kathleen (Ewing) Johnson.

Samuel developed a successful typewriter sales and repair business in downtown Dallas called the S.L. Ewing Company. After his death, it was taken over by this son-in-law and daughter, John Thomas Boyce and Lelia E. (Ewing) Boyce. The company retained the Ewing name and was still operating in 2014.

Samuel passed away March 23, 1922 and was buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Dallas.
