Biography

John was born in 1800. He died in 1834.

son of Marlin Farmer and Elizabeth Echols.

Settled in Indian Township near New Harmony, Pike County, Missouri, where he lived until his death in 1834, leaving 6 children: Mary Ann, Elizabeth T. Ella Louisa, Moses A., Wm. M. and John.

Pike Co Probate Records - p. 2, Vol 2. "John Farmer. . . . Children: Mary Ann Farmer, Elizabeth Taylor Farmer, Eliza Judson Farmer (has to be Ellen), Moses Allen Farmer, W. Marlin Farmer, (John F.M. not yet born) . . . wife Jane Farmer. Prob. 18 Aug, 1834, Bondsmen: William Willis, Thomas Hughlett and Thos. Kerr."

Farmer Family papers say he was oldest son.

Wife Jane later married Stephen Burts, who died in 1852.

From the 1883 History of Pike County: "John Farmer (deceased), farmer, was born in Pittsylvania county, Virginia, in 1800, and was the son of William and Elizabeth (Eckells) Farmer. He was married in February, 1821, to Miss Jane Woodson, daughter of Allen and Jenny Taylor Woodson. They came to Pike county in 1830, first settling in Indian township, near New Harmony, where Mr. Farmer resided until his death in 1834, leaving six children: Mary Ann, Elizabeth T., Ella Louisa, Moses A., W. M. (deceased), and John. After the death of her husband Mrs. Farmer married Stephen Burts, who died in 1852."
