Biography

Edward Henry Faulkner was born in 1851 in Lambeth, Surrey. He was the son of Henry Faulkner, a sawyer, and Ann Elliott.

The 1851 census records him, aged 0, living with his parents and older brother Henry, as well as his mother’s three sons from her first marriage William, Alfred, and John. [1]

Edward was four years old when his family emigrated to Australia on the Donald McKay. [2]

The family first lived on the Huon River in Tasmania before settling in Lyttleton Street, Castlemaine in about 1860.

Edward married Alice Willenk (spelling uncertain) in 1878, the same year his father passed away. [3]

Edward and Alice lived in Fitzroy and had four children: Ethel (1878); Edward (1880); Lilian (1883); and Albert (1887).

Edward was widowed when Alice passed away in 1923.

Edward passed away in 1929. [4]

FAULKNER. On the 19th June (after a long and painful illness), Edward Henry, loving husband of the late Alice Faulkner and dearly loved father of Ethel, Edward, Lilian and Albert, aged 77 years. A colonist of 72 years. (interred privately.)

He is buried with Alice in Brighton cemetery. [6]
