PRINCIPAL RESIGNS. St. Paul's Home, Newhaven. The resignation is announced of the Rev. E. H. Faulkner, who has been principal of St. Paul's Training School for Boys, Newhaven, Phillip Island, for 13 years. About 120 problem boys are cared for at the school, which is conducted by the Mission of St. James and St. John. It is understood that a successor has been selected to fill Mr. Faulkner's position, which is regarded as one of the most onerous in the diocese. Mr. Faulkner stated last night that he had resigned because of ill-health owing to the continuous strain of his work. He would leave the institution on November 30. Mr. Faulkner was appointed to raise funds for the Newhaven Boys' Home, a State institution, condemned by the Government about 14 years ago. The late Archbishop Lees had persuaded Archdeacon Lambie to take over the home as part of the Mission of St. James and St. John, and after Mr. Faulkner had raised £15,000, he was appointed as first principal of the institution, which was reopened as St. Paul's Training Home for Boys, with buildings erected at a cost of £25,000. Since then the buildings have been increased, and a chapel, costing £5,000, has been built in memory of the late Mr. Justice Schutt. Several years ago the Seaside Garden Home was handed over to the Mission of St. James and St. John. It became a junior house for St. Paul's, under Mr. Faulkner's control. Mr. Faulkner served with the Australian Flying Corps in the Great War. He is an accomplished black and white artist, an excellent athlete, an engineer, and he had several years' experience as a parish priest before beginning his work at Phillip Island. [5]

Edward passed away in 1939, aged 58. [6]
