Joseph Feldman was the son of Morris Feldman[1][2] and Lina Leffkovitz.[3] In his Naturalization papers Joseph stated he was born 22 Jul 1879 in Ungwar, Austria.[4] In his WWI draft registration Joseph stated he was born 15 Jul 1879 in Budapest, Hungary.[5]
In the 1900 census[6] taken on 16 Jun 1900 Joseph was living with his parents at 218 Eleventh Street in Braddock borough, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.

Joe Feldman married Bertha Markovitz on 11 Mar 1906 in Manhattan, New York, New York. He was then 24 years of age (est. birth 1882) in Hongaria, the son of Morris Feldman and Lina Leffkovitz. She was 22 (est. birth 1884) in Hongaria, the daughter of Sam Markovitz and Hany Grossman.[3]
In the 1910 census[7] taken on 20 Apr 1910 Joe and Bertha were living at 419 John Street in Braddock borough, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. They had both immigrated in 1899 and were not yet naturalized.
In his Declaration of Intention, signed 16 Sep 1910 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Jozef Feldman stated he was residing in Braddock, Pennsylvania, age 31, a meat cutter, described as white with dark complexion, 5 feet 5 inches, 158 pounds, brown hair and eyes. He was born in Ungwar Co. Austria, on 22 Jul 1879. He emigrated to the US, leaving from Bremen, Germany, and arriving in Baltimore, Maryland about 15 Apr 1895. [Note: Ungwar, now Uzhhorod, Ukraine, was then a part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.[8]]
In his Petition for Naturalization, signed 23 Oct 1912, Jozef stated he was residing at 419 John St., Braddock, and was a meat cutter. He was born 22 Jul 1879 in Ungvar Austria. He emigrated leaving Breman, Germany about 1 Apr 1895 and arriving in Baltimore about 15 Apr 1895. (Vessel name unknown.) His wife's name was Bertha Feldman, born in Pewste Austria. They had two children: Sidney b. 16 May 1906 and David b. 16 Mar 1907.
Jozef took the Oath of Allegiance on 19 Jun 1913, renouncing allegiance to Francis Joseph, Emporer of Austria and Apostolic King of Hungary, and swearing his allegiance to the United States. Certificate of Naturalization No. 380715.
Joseph Feldman, husband of Bertha Feldman, of 622 Baldridge, N Braddock, Allegheny, PA, registered for the WWI draft on 12 Sep 1918. He states that he was 39, born on 15 Jul 1879, and self employed as a meat packer working at 545 Maple Way in Braddock. He was said to be short and stout with brown eyes and bald with brown hair. He signed his name Jozef Feldman.[5]
In the 1920 census[9] taken on 8 Jan 1920 Joe and Bertha were living at 622 Baldridge Ave. in North Braddock borough, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Joe had immigrated in 1898 and was naturalized in 1912. Bertha had immigrated in 1897 and was also naturalized. Their mother tongue was listed as "Jewish".

In the 1930 census[10] taken on 5 Apr 1930 Joseph and Bertha were still living at 622 Baldridge Ave. in North Braddock borough, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. It lists their mother tongue as Yiddish, and they both immigrated in 1895 and were naturalized. Jacob (50) and Goldy Markovitz are living nextdoor with their family, and his occupation is butcher. Is this Bertha's brother? Son William Markowitz is a salesman in a furniture store as well.
