Biography

Rosolia (Ferraro) Lasala migrated from Sicily to New York.

Rosalia was born about 1869 ^[1], daughter of Domenico Ferraro and Anna Montelione ^[2]. In 1885 at age 16, she married 27-year-old Calogero La Sala, a shepherd ^[3]. She was a seamstress at the time of her marriage. They had multiple children, not all yet identified.

Rosalia moved to Brooklyn, NY. A ship roster for 1922 shows her son Francesco arriving in New York to see his mother Rosalia Ferraro in Brooklyn, and he gives his father, Calogero La Sala, as his contact in Santa Margherita. We're not sure if Calogero ever moved, but Rosalia remained in New York, still living in Brooklyn at the time of her death in 1944 ^[4]. She died at age 75 or so and is buried in St. John's Cemetery in Middle Village, Queens, NY.

Rosalia was named for her paternal grandmother, Rosolia Portolano (Piazzese).
