Francesco was born in Santa Margherita di Belice, Sicily in 1903 to Calogero La Sala, a shepherd, and Rosolia Ferraro[1]. We know he traveled as a 19-year-old to the U.S. in 1922 while his mother was living in Brooklyn, and his father in Santa Margherita. It isn't known whether Francesco remained in the U.S. or returned to Sicily.
Francesco was named for his paternal grandfather, Francesco La Sala.
