Martha Fleming was born in early 1854 in Kilbirnie[1] or Dalry,[2][3] Ayrshire, the daughter of Thomas Fleming and Margaret (McIlwraith) Fleming.[4][5][6][7]

Martha married Samuel Campbell, as his second wife, on 01 January 1877 in Dalry.[8] They were married for more than 50 years. (See "Golden Wedding" below.)

Martha Campbell died on 08 April 1928 at her home on Dean St., Kilmarnock, at age 74. [4]

An obituary was printed 14 April 1928 in the Kilmarnock Standard: Kilmarnock,

In 1927 Samuel and Martha celebrated their 50th anniversary, a notice of which was printed in the Kilmarnock Standard: [11]

GOLDEN WEDDING.
"Mrs & Mrs Samuel Campbell".

On New Year's Day, Mr & Mrs Samuel Campbell, 96 Dean St., Kilmarnock, celebrate their golden wedding with a gathering of their family and a few friends at their home. Both are natives of Dalry, Ayrshire and were married there on 1st. January 1877, by the Rev. Dr. Stevenson.
They came to Kilmarnock thirty years ago, and Mr. Campbell, who was employed as a miner, worked at the Nursery Pit for about sixteen years. For health reasons he found it necessary to give up that occupation, and in turn he was employed at Messrs J & M Craig's pottery works for five years and at the Railway Works, Kilmarnock, for about 5½ years. He retired from active work some five years ago. There was a family of seven sons and four daughters survive, and there are twelve grandchildren.
All the members of the family and most of the grandchildren were present at the golden Wedding celebrations, and the gathering was a very enjoyable one. Mr. Campbell, who is in his 75th year, still enjoys good health, but Mrs Campbell, who is one year his junior, has been confined to the house for some time past. The worthy couple were the recipients of hearty congratulations and many handsome presents, the principal gift being a purse of sovereigns from the

members of their family, which was handed over by the youngest son, Mr J T Campbell, who, on behalf of the family, expressed the hope that they would be long spared to each other and enjoy health and happiness.
