Searle Andrea Frederick Foldi 1898-1953)

Searle (or Cyril as he was known was the second child and first son of Andrea and Hannah.

He was born on March 15, 1898, at Erskineville, NSW, and baptised in the Methodist Church the same year. He married Elvina Grace McGrane in 1917 at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, North Balmain. They had one daughter Elvie Martha Foldi born December 2, 1917.

As a young man, Cyril worked as a bottle sorter. He became a glassblower and worked for the Vulcan Glass Works in Waterloo, NSW, where Holbrooks Sauce bottles and stoppers were made. He worked his way up to Works Foreman and then to General Manager and remained in that position after Vulcan was taken over by Holbrooks until his retirement.

He was a keen Rugby League supporter and regularly returned home hoarse from Saturday outings to support his home team - Balmain.

Cyril died in Balmain on September 30, 1953, at the age of fifty-five years. His remains are in the Field of Mars Cemetery, Sydney.
