Biography

Surgeon Thomas Forster was born about 1780 at England.^[1]

Thomas was a surgeon with the 75th Regiment of Foot.^[2]

Aged 37 years, Thomas married seventeen year-old Elizabeth Blaxland, daughter of noted explorer, Gregory Blaxland, in 1817 in St John's Church of England, Parramatta, New South Wales.^[3] They had seven children, the eldest three of whom were born in India and the latter ones back in New South Wales (although the family is not listed on the 1828 New South Wales Census):

1. William Forster (1818-82), became a premier of New South Wales
2. Elizabeth Forster (1820-94), married surname Blaxland
3. Martha Forster (1821-1909), married surname Rutledge
4. Louisa Forster (1826-49), unmarried
5. Jane Forster (1830-1919), unmarried
6. Thomas Clifford Forster (1831-32), infant mortality
7. Francis Forster (1833-77)

They made their home at Brush Farm, the Blaxland family property near Ryde.

Thomas passed away, aged 75 years, on 5th February 1856 at Brush Farm.^[2][4][5] He was survived by his wife, two sons and three daughters.
