Biography

"Joseph Fougere and Marguerite Coate had 7 sons (4 of whom settled in Havre Boucher) and 5 daughters: [...] Marthe Fougere, born after 1771, marries c. 1790 Pierre Paul Lavandier (son of Abraham and Genevieve Benard) [...]" [1]

"Pierre-Paul Lavandier was born 1757 in Port Toulouse, Nova Scotia and died September 11, 1834 in Havre Boucher, Nova Scotia. He married Marthe Fougere 1790 in Arichat, Nova Scotia, daughter of Joseph Fougere and Marguerite Coste. Their children are:

Anne Jeanne [b. abt 1791], m. Isaac Roy in 1814, Tracadie, Nova Scotia
Marguerite, b. 1792; d. March 27, 1867, Tracadie, Nova Scotia; m. Joseph Beloni Maillet, 9 Jan 1815
Luc, b. 1793; d. 23 April 1876, Havre Bouche, Nova Scotia; m. Madeline DeCoste." [2]

The family lives in Antigonish County (Pomquet-Tracadie-Havre Boucher) ïn 1794. [3]

In the 1827 Census of Tracadie, there is a Peter Paul. What makes me think that this is the family of Pierre Paul Lavandier and Marthe Fougère is that many neighbors could be members of the family. The Lavenders: Charles (brother?), Charles (nephew?), Simeon, Micheal, Luke (son?) and Hubert (nephew?). In the same list, just above "Peter Paul", we see Isaac King (KIng is the english word for Roy). Jeanne Lavandier, daughter of Pierre Paul Lavandier and Marthe Fougère married Isaac Roy in 1814 at Tracadie. [4] And, in the same neighborhood, there are other Lavenders and Fusheirs (english pronunciation of Fougère).

In the 1838 Census of Cape Jack and Havre Boucher, there are a lot of Lavendiers and Fougeres (names spelled in french), but no record for Marthe. There is a widow Lavendier, but she has young children under 6 years. It cannot be her. [5]

She passed away in 1838. On the night of November 23 to 24 1838, the Arichat presbytery burned down and all records prior to 1839 have been lost [6]
