Eliza Ann (Fox) Yates migrated from England to Australia.

Eliza Ann was born about December 1850. She was the daughter of Joseph Fox and Elizabeth Fish. ^[1]

The family emigrated; arriving in Melbourne in 1853 aboard the Calliope. With Joseph and Elizabeth were the three children Charles, Sophia and Eliza Ann. ^[2]

On 26 February 1870 at the residence of Mr. John Brown (her stepfather), Molesworth Street, Wellington, she married Sam Yates, youngest son of Mr. John Yates, Wellington. ^{[3] [4]}

They had a son Samuel in 1871.

Her husband Sam may have disappeared in 1873. He may or may not have gone to Dunedin (see his profile for comments).

No further records found for Eliza Ann or their son. A survey of later NZ marriage for Eliza Yates, none seem plausible:

• 1875/1989 Eliza Yates + Frederick Richard White -- shown in Ancestry Profile as daughter of a James Yates.
• 1879/1080 Elizabeth Yates + Charles Batt -- newspaper marriage notice says she was of Worcestershire.
• 1881/2324 Eliza Yates + John Ward Wilkes -- dies 12 June 1907 age 60, burial at Waikumete. Marriage notice says late of Warwick, England.
• 1890/2599 Eliza Yates + Alfred Hurndell; dies 1946 age 78. Too young.
• 1900/3278 Elizabeth Ann Yates + Henry Tullock Tait

There is an 1881 Christchurch newspaper article about an Eliza Yates petty thief, whose mother pled leniency. We don't know where this profile's mother was in 1881, but she was in Dunedin in 1886 for no reason that we have been able to determine. ^[5]
