Biography

Jemima was born in 1738 in Nantucket to parents Grafton and Abigail (Coffin) Gardner.[1][2]

She married Paul Pinkham in 1761.[3]

They were the parents of the following children:

  2. Paul, born 1763; [5]
  3. Isaiah, born 21 Aug 1765, died 14 Jul 1766;[6]
  4. Jemima, born 21 Aug 1765, died 5 Sep 1765;[7]
  5. Lurana, born 1 Jun 1767, died 5 Dec 1768;[8]
  6. Matilda, born 1770; [9]
  7. Margaret, born 24 Oct 1773;[10]
  8. Eunice, born 29 Aug 1775, died 26 Nov 1777;[11]
  9. Aaron, born 24 Jun 1778, died 22 Mar 1780.[12]

Jemima passed away in 1820.

Paul Pinkham m. Jemima Gardner, b. Sunday, July 2, 1738. She was the daughter of Grafton Gardner, b. May 3, 1707; d. April 13, 1789, and who m. Abigail Coffin, b. Dec, 1708; d. March 21, 1796. Jemima Gardner was the granddaughter of George Gardner, who d. 1750, who m. Eunice Starbuck, who d. 1766. Jemima Gardner was the great-granddaughter of John Gardner, who went to Nantucket, Mass., in 1668; he d. 1706, and his wife Priscilla, d. 1717 (Eunice Starbuck, mentioned above, was the daughter of Nathaniel Starbuck and Mary Coffin, seventh child of the ancestor, Tristram Coffin and Dionis Stevens. Silas Gardner, brother of the above Jemima Gardner, went to Cape Porpoise, Me., April 21, 1801, and remained there until his death. He was born Nantucket, Mass., Sept. 27, 1753; d. May 17, 1826).

Jemima's birth was originally entered as 20 Aug 1738 which is based on the Barney Genealogical Record with the source from the William C. Folger genealogical records. This is the image of how it appears in the Nantucket Vital Records[14]
