Margaret was born in 1758. She was the daughter of David George and Mary Cunningham. She married first Captain James Hardwick. James was an officer during the Revolutionary War and died in the Battle of the Cowpens under Brig. Gen. Morgan against British forces led by Lieutenant Colonel Sir Banastre Tarleton in South Carolina. Lt. John Towns served under Hardwick and was at his side as Hardwick lay mortally wounded.
