This name has been Garren, Gearing, Garn, Gerren, Gurren and numerous other variations.

James Gerren was born about 1807 in New Jersey (according to the 1850 U.S. Census) or Pennsylvania (according to death records for his sons Mathias and James, as well as the 1880 and 1900 U.S. Census records for his son Mathias).

He married Rosanna (last name Booker or Smith) and was a farmer in Chester Township, Morrow County, Ohio.

In 1840 James Geevin was living in Brush Creek Township, Jefferson County, Ohio [1]

The 1850 U.S. Census recorded 42-year-old farmer James Gerren in Chester Township, Morrow County, Ohio. The household consisted of James Gerren, 42; Rosannah Gerren, 37; Samuel Gerren, 16 and a laborer; Mathias Gerren, 14; Louisa Gerren, 11; Jemima Gerren, 8; Elizabeth Gerren, 4; and James Gerren, 1. According to the record, the elder James Gerren was born in New Jersey and all other family members were born in Ohio.[1]
